Our values

Our roots are important to us so we keep doing what we have loved doing since 1932 – making great speciality cheeses using Lancashire milk and Lancashire people. It's “champion” fun!

We like to keep it local and will always seek to use suppliers that are as close to home as possible, doing our bit to minimise the impact on the environment whenever possible.

We look after our cows as they are part of our family, and happy cows make the best milk. All of the farms that supply us with milk are members of the British Red Tractor scheme and part of The Assured Dairy Farm Scheme – a right old mouthful to say but it means we have great production standards and strong animal welfare principles. And with the furthest farm being just 14 miles away, we can wave to many of our cows on our way home, as they chomp away happily.

We’ve learnt that good cheese is a careful balance of the right ingredients, the right people and the right amount of time to mature. Nothing is hurried and everything is nurtured with some of that Lancashire passion.

Responsible for the development of all new products and packaging, Bronwen works closely with all of our customers to make sure that you get exactly what you want. A new cheese takes a great deal of creativity, enthusiasm, time and passion to develop properly and Bronwen has plenty of that!

Butlers has been awarded EFSIS accreditation at grade A level on every site. In short, that means we are making our cheese to the highest standard in every possible way. One of the leading global inspection and certification experts, EFSIS provides retailers, manufacturers, farmers and caterers throughout the world with extensive independent inspection and certification of their operations to ensure only the highest standards are maintained.
