Here at Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses we have been making Lancashire cheese to the traditional farmhouse recipe since 1932.
Our Tasty Lancashire cheese weigh approximately 20kg, after they have been made they are waxed which allows us to keep them for up to 12 months whilst we mature them in our maturing stores at the dairy.
The time taken to make a traditional farmhouse Lancashire cheese, 48 hours in the making and nearly a year in the maturing, results in a cheese which has a complex flavour, a loose open texture and a ‘tang’ at the back of your throat as you eat the cheese!
What’s more the open texture of this cheese makes it superb to cook with as it melts beautifully. Tasty Lancashire cheese doesn’t result in stringy rubbery goo but a lovely smooth cheese sauce full of flavour. There is no need to grate the cheese it will simply crumble into a pan or over a salad to give it an extra dimension.
